Hello World!
So, this being a minimalistic blog space for devs, what better way to introduce myself than the all famous phrase of "Hello World!" that I got first sight of when I was sitting in a C programming (yes, I'm that old, but not as old as earlier versions of a certain COBOL slant) lecture as a bright-eyed uni student?
The years have zoomed by in a twinkling, and I've moved on from C to python, with some sojourning into object-oriented programming and perl in between. But I was never a proficient programmer, and remember that I was distinctly better at documenting and designing code rather than actually writing the damn thing.
And no, this blog is definitely not about by programming prowess which I profess to have absolutely none of.
In truth, I haven't figured out what this post IS going to be about and if you've read this much, I salute you for your perseverance.
This is, as much as anything, an experiment. You see, I'm not the loudest person IRL (my kids will be proud of my use of internet lingo), not the most eloquent. So this is a test to see if I have thoughts that are worth documenting, and in so doing, perhaps, this will act as a spark that can open up new ways of thinking and organising my thoughts which will have an impact on how I carry myself in person. Let's see, stick around and I may report on my new state of being in a few weeks.
Back to the introduction.
Without giving away too much and making this blog a serious blunder in identify theft... I am an Asian man in my mid to late 40s, bespectacled, happily married with three kids and a dog. How stereotypical, unremarkable and vanilla.
Let's go a little further.
Professionally, I've worked in consulting for many years but 'saw the light' and left to 'work in industry' about a decade ago and have been working in organisations that are making a social impact, most notably in education and financial planning.
I'm a keen sports fan without much natural talent, as aptly described by my own mother as someone who "tries hard". Too many waking hours are spent obsessing over English football, with a combination of podcasts, highlights, blog posts occupying my time. When I'm not watching professional sports, I'm on the sidelines of amateur sports cheering on my daughters who love their sport, and probably inherited their talent from my better half.
So now that I've made my introduction, and not to give too much away, I'll end this blog post by making a graceful bow and not going so far as promising that I'll be back with more musings about life from my perspective.
Cheerio!
